December 5th, 2006 - Members, This is a brief update I sent out to the IOM sailors registered for
this weekends IOM Regatta. We will be racing from 10:30 - 4:30pm. Just in case you want to come out and see these higher tech boats that never have to say "too much wind"! Come on out and enjoy the day on the patio......Ray

Hey guys, It's only 4 days away so I wanted to give everyone a basic update of the who-who's that are registered for the "Classic" to date. Still looking for more so get the word out if you could. For
you out of towners, namely Brig, Martin, and David, we do appreciate your support for this. We realize that it might be hard this time of year and we haven't done much promoting for this year Classic, but we (WSC) did want to keep it simple, yet get some of you down here to see our venue/clubhouse. Many of you have heard of the show that we are capable of producing for a Regatta, and what we will have next weekend will be a scaled down version of a typical regatta and the professional staff that we have in our club that are proud of the reputation of hospitality we serve. I can safely say that everyone involved next weekend in "Staffing" the regatta have at the very least 6 years each of R/C Regattas at Woodlawn, not to mention 2 Nationals and 3 Regional type events. I don't think you will be sorry you traveled. If for a one-day event! It just saddens me to continue-ally hear that everyone (past IOM participants to SA) wants to come back to San Antonio, yet when it's time to do so we only get the a few responses. Let me just say Thank You to y'all personally and I do really appreciate the effort. I know you won't be disappointed with your day at the Woodlawn Sailing Club, and a day with what is known now Nationally as the Pirate's of Woodlawn. To date the entry list has not increased from the last update, but here is a boat (hull) breakdown of your FYI:

Woodlawn Sailing Club members:
Ray Seta, IKON
Eric Gregory, IKON
Ray Mireles, IKON
Carl Seta, Image
John "JK" Kuc, Image
Amando Rivera, Italiko
David Finnel, V3
Mark Hogan, Tornado 250

Trinity River Yacht Club:
Brig North, Stealth
David Eldridge, Skiff Eater
Martin Van Wolfswinkel, Forte

Thanks again for y'alls time and support for yet another Woodlawn event. This is the final event of the year for Woodlawn and we are proud to make it for our fasted growing class in the club. I may consider moving this event to November if Mark in Houston wants to try another month for his event. But we can talk about this in the near future.

Brig....can you forward this to Martin?

Drive safe and we'll see ya on Saturday AM.

Capt. Jack Seta - "Black Pearl" IOM USA #88
Commodore WSC '06-'07

December 2nd, 2006 - There's no better way to spend a chilly Saturday night than with friends, food and a roaring fire!  This past Saturday December 2nd the Woodlawn Sailing Club held its Annual General Membership Meeting to elect the 2007 club leadership.  Once again Ray Seta will take the reins as commodore and Ray Mireles will start his 2nd year as Treasurer.  All other positions are appointed by the commodore.  Strong leadership, ideal facilities and an excellent financial situation should help make a terrific 2007 for the Pirates of Woodlawn...a.k.a. Team San Antonio!!!!!!
Best Regards,
Eric Gregory

November 12th, 2006 - Another Spectacular Sunday sail out as 5 Team San Antonio IOM's tore through the course in preparation for the upcoming Inaugural Alamo Classic IOM Regatta!   We were joined today by HOT OD39 sailor Terry Lindemann who piloted Ray Mireles’ spare Image IOM to several convincing victories.  Better buy that Image quick Terry, a boat that hot won’t be for sale long!

We will be having a special IOM sail out on November 19th and we're hoping to see all 12 San Antonio IOM's out for the day. Our OD39 fleet is welcome to come out and play too as we know how competitive you guys are in a combined One Meter Fleet!!!!

Best Regards, Eric Gregory

October 22nd, 2006 - Argh....Red Beard!

The schedule looks good as far as the placement for all the events and I'm sure the dates are all perfect to as far as the right day they fall on also. So let's call this our 2007 schedule set in stone!....Good Work!  I bet there's not another club that has there 2007 schedule set yet much less in print also. Just another example why Mr. Eric will be the webmaster extrodinair for life!!!!!!!!!!

Now to all Pirates! :
Can you believe that City is actually going to call it finished after the year they had with the Construction of the latest lake Projects!!!! This is an open Invitation for all members of the Woodlawn Sailing Club to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. I hope a few of us can make it and represent WSC as one of the biggest users and most appreciates the new docks that we got out of the deal. It was a tough deal trying to get the new docks for 6 years a year of climbing around the chain fence, it is worth it. I will be in attendance....hope you can make it!

September 10th, 2006 - The 2nd Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta was a glorious success thanks to the wonderful volunteers that make the Woodlawn organization work.  Next year promises to be Bigger and Better as the 3rd Alamo Classic plays double duty as the Region 5 Victoria Championship Regatta.

September 8th, 2006 - Quote from AMYA President Pete Maxson at the 2nd Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta: "First time I've been in Texas and it is nice!  I'm very very impressed and this venue is unbelievable!  If we could take a picture of this and put it in the dictionary of what a venue should look like, this is it."

September 3rd, 2006 - If you haven’t been out the lake lately you wouldn’t know that we are finally getting our new Y- Dock. After working with the City Park and Recreation New Projects Department for the last 5 years, they have come up with a way to fund the complete demo & reconstruct the Y- Dock this year. By creatively placing this scope of work in with another “Improvement” Contract, they were able to find a contractor. Amstar Construction, of San Antonio was awarded the project. It was a combination of the improvements to the Gymnasium, New Playground Equipment, new ADA sidewalks, and the Y-Dock that all this work could be done in 2006. The dock itself has basically been left to the last, with demolition and reconstruction to have just started last week.  It was Amstar Construction  that graciously gave us, the Sailing Club only, exclusive use of the docks last year for our Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta when the sidewalk and parking lot work was also going on.  For this we continue to Thank them. The new docks will be 10’feet wide instead of the current 5’ feet and ADA Compliant. They will be constructed out of all new state of the art materials. I have been told that all work on the docks will be complete by this Sept 22. Given the fact that the 2nd Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta is scheduled for Columbus Day Weekend just a few days later, you can be assured that I will keep close tabs on the construction progress.  - Ray Seta

July 7th, 2006 - The 2nd Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta has now been released!!!!! Click Here To Explore The ACVRII Site..

June 24-25, 2006- Ray & JK represent Woodlawn at the 2006 Victoria Nationals Championship Regatta in Bakersfield, CA.....Click Here for audio updates.

June 20th - Thank the lord for Tuesday night sailouts!!!  How else could an honest sailor or pirate get through the week...4 OD39's hit the water this evening to battle it out in heavy air.  Mando and Ray M were both victims of broken side stays with Ray M loosing his mast twice...but nothing was stopping our valiant racers as they made repairs and returned to the water.   After racing David F entertained the group with awesome audio and video from the Alamo Classic OD39 Regatta.  I can't wait to post trailers on the website!!!!

June 18th brought light winds and HEAT to our Woodlawn paradise but the Victoria's still came out to play!!!   7 Victoria's in all hit the water to practice for this coming weekend's Victoria Nationals to be held in Bakersfield, CA.    Congratulations to our newest member and Victoria Sailor Dee Dimayuga who showed great competitive spirit at this afternoon's races.  Good Sailing, Eric Gregory

On June 4th, 2006 we celebrated the Inaugural Yankee Tom Day! Yes our fellow Pirate Tom Kern flew in all the way from Jersey to spend some quality time with his buds. 10 Victoria’s and 1 Wind Warrior raced around the buoys on this Sunny, 93 degree afternoon. The official forecast had winds blowing from the Southeast at 10mph with occasional gusts to 19mph. In reality the wind was all over the place and it was common to switch from beating to running and back to beating again on the way up to the windward mark. Back at the club house Tony was bar-b-queing fajitas and Mama Seta was preparing her delicious rice and sides for lunch. It was all so good I had to go back for thirds. Like Ray always says: “From Woodlawn, You’ll Never Go Home Hungry.” Best Regards, Eric Gregory

Victoria Sailout, Sunday, May 21st - Bright smiles, sunny skies and 5 Victoria’s raced from buoy to buoy on Sunday afternoon.  Budman’s superior boat s peed was obvious today as he repeatedly pulled away from our small fleet.  While we were sailing a TV camera crew from a Spanish Station filmed their hot reporter babe on the barge while we sailed Victoria’s just a few feet behind her.  She was even hotter than the reporter babe from Inside R/C who filmed us at White Rock!!!  I guess these sleek Victoria’s just attract that kind of attention.

The Woodlawn Sailing Team was in Oklahoma City, OK competing in the Region 5 Victoria Championship Regatta the weekend of May 5-7th.
On Sunday May 7th, the home crowd gathered at the clubhouse for our first Sunday of the month "Run What Ya Brung" R/C Sailout.  Two OD39s, 1 IOM and 1 AC15 raced around the buoys in shifty 5-10mph East winds.

Saturday, April 29th, Woodlawn held is 51st Annual Sunfish Fiesta Regatta.  Absolute perfect weather conditions greeted our Fiesta sailors as they blasted up and down the lake!  The crisscrossing Fiesta race course could be best described as a Tour de Woodlawn as it covers every part of Woodlawn Lake.  Our next sail out is Tuesday the 2nd at 6pm for Sunfish sailing and R/C Radio controlled OD39 sailing.

Saturday, April 22nd, The City of San Antonio held its official Earth day Celebration at Woodlawn Lake Park.  The Woodlawn Sailing Club used this opportunity to hold its Annual R/C show and Sail Day to entertain the crowds!  This coming Saturday, April the 29th, we will host the 51st Annual Sunfish Fiesta Regatta.  This outings will be an official Fiesta events!!!!

Sunday, April 16th, 2006, 4 Victoria's 2 IOM's and 1 Wind Warrior raced around the buoys on this beautiful Easter Sunday.   Hundreds of family camp sites were surrounding the lake and Easter egg hunts, bar-b-que's, and other family activities were quite common sites.  Even the Easter bunny was seen hopping down Woodlawn's famous walking trail...  This coming weekend, April 22nd, the City of San Antonio will hold its official Earth day Celebration at Woodlawn Lake Park.  The Woodlawn Sailing Club will be there to put on its yearly R/C Show & Sail Out to entertain the crowds!  The following Saturday, April the 29th, we will host the 51st Annual Sunfish Fiesta Regatta.  Both of these outings are official Fiesta events!!!!!

Both of these outings are official Fiesta events...

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006, our first evening sail out for the year, attracted 6 OD39s and 1 IOM out to practice for this Saturday’s Big Pirate Showdown Extravaganza, “The 10th Annual Alamo Classic OD39 Regatta”!!!!!     This year’s Alamo Classic should be spectacular with the potential for 15+ boats on the starting line and two fleets.   Let’s all come out and make this one for the record book!!!...Good Sailing, Eric Gregory

April 2nd, 2006 was another picture perfect day on Woodlawn with 90º temperature, a sunny sky and 5-10 mph winds.  5 IOMs, 1 OD39 and 2 Victorias sailed gracefully from buoy to buoy on this “Run What Ya Brung” R/C sail day.  Click here for photos.    Tuesday the 6th we kick off our summer sailing schedule with our first evening sail out.  OD39s are expected in mass quantities in preparation for Saturday the 8th’s “10th Annual Alamo Classic OD39 Regatta”.  See announcement below for details….Good Sailing, Eric Gregory

Sunday, March 26th was another fantastic day at Woodlawn Lake with average winds of 10 to 15 mph and powerful 25 mph gusts that made the course challenging and kept our 6 OD39 and 2 IOM R/C sailors on their toes….  Ray Mireles gave us all a great look at his slick new IKON IOM as he powered up the course with just a “B” rig and showed just what kind of great speed and control IOM’s have in medium to heavy air.  Next Sunday is “Run What Ya Brung” R/C sail day and it promises to be another outstanding sail out for the Pirates of Woodlawn…..Eric Gregory

Sunday, February 12th,  10 OD39’s and 1 IOM were splashed this weekend at Woodlawn Lake!!!!  Thanks ever so much to Mama Seta for bringing out such wonderful food and to Tony Seta for Bar-B-Queing while the rest of us sailed.   Good Food, Good Friends, and absolutely Great Sailing…this in a nut-shell is what the Woodlawn Sailing Club is all about!!!!!   I can hardly wait for next weekend when we bring out the Victoria R/C’s to race around the buoys!     Eric Gregory ;-)

Sunday, January 15th saw extreme competitiveness amongst the Pirates of Woodlawn as they practiced and tuned for next weekend’s Victoria Frostbite regatta.  6 Victoria’s, 1 Wind Warrior and 1 Sea Wind made it out to the lake to battle in the 15mph SSW winds!!!   No one skipper proved to be dominate as finishing places changed with each race and tuning session.   Special thanks for the breakfast tacos at noon followed by Mama Seta’s famous spaghetti and meatballs during the afternoon break.  There are no skinny pirates at Woodlawn…lol…!!!   Be sure to check back over the weekend as we post updates on the exciting exploits of our 10 member Pirate Team competing at this year’s Frostbite regatta in Pasadena, TX….
