2006 Frostbite Regatta
Reports From The Woodlawn Racing Team a.k.a. The Pyrates of Woodlawn The Woodlawn Racing Team was back in action January 20th through 22nd at The Frost Bite Regatta in Pasadena, TX! Updates on the adventures of our sailing hero's has been posted below. – Good Sailing, Eric Gregory. Sunday, January 22, 2006 - The Top 3 Skippers Are: (1.) A.J. Moritz (TX), (2.) Geoff Becker (MD), and (3.) John Kuc (TX). Congratulations guys and special thanks to Race Organizer Mark Cooper and Race Director Mickey Petersen of The Clearpoint Model Yacht Club for putting on such a wonderful event. Although not very "FROSTY" mother nature did "BITE" with thick fog during the morning hours and rain during the afternoon...Wet and soggy the sailors raced on through Sunday fighting to save every point they could toward their final point totals! Here are the final day race results for the 2006 Frostbite Regatta...Click Here for The Race By Race Results Spreadsheet.
Click Here for Gary Ward's Photo Collection Saturday, January 21, 2006 - Here are the results after day #1:
An overcast sky and a high temperature of 64 degrees. 10-15mph winds
early settling to 0-5 toward the end of the day. A light
sprinkle made the steep bank slippery and one person did fall.
Ray Seta was having electrical problems and in between breaks he
could be seen ripping out his electronics and replacing it with all
new components. Mark Hogan was horribly sick and after the
first race he announced that he was going home. We hope that
he makes it home OK and gets over what ever it is that's attaching
him. Here are some photo's taken throughout the day:
Friday, January 20, 2006 - All 10 of the Woodlawn Pyrates have arrived and pillaging and looting has begun in earnest!!! The water level is much lower than in years past but the lake still has plenty of water left for sailing. The temperature reached 72 degrees today and winds were high with a periodic sprinkle of rain. This isn't my idea of FROSTBITE!!!! This weather is all in advance of a norther which will blow through tonight bringing North winds and a cooler day tomorrow. This evening 28 skippers including all 10 Woodlawn Racers had dinner together at Willie's Grill. We all had a great time catching up with old friends and getting to know a few new sailing buddies as well. After dinner a bunch of us gathered out around Capt. "Rummy" Mark's truck to consume grog and talk racing. As some folks would turn in for the night others would take their place extending the party late into the evening. A few photos of this evening's tale gate party are shown below:
Here's the forecast for Saturday and Sunday:
Thursday, January 19, 2006 - Here are the 2006 Victoria Rankings for the Woodlawn Pyrate Racing Team released by our Class Secretary just moments ago:

The official "look" memo: Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - OK, I received a bit of criticism about my pyrate get-up this morning so here are some distractions to throw everyone off my case....I have plenty of extra eye patches and earrings for Frostbite so expect the chart below to expand......Red-Beard.....
Monday, January 16, 2006 - OK you mangy sea mutts...we pyrates are preparing for the big invasion of Frostbite isle!!!!! Together we TeamSA Pryates make up over 26% of this years participants. For the rest of you 28 doomed sailors beware!!!! we're coming to get ya.... Red-Beard The Pyrate Sunday, January 15, 2006 - Extreme competitiveness amongst the Pirates of Woodlawn was evident as they practiced and tuned for next weekend’s Victoria Frostbite regatta. 6 Victoria’s, 1 Wind Warrior and 1 Sea Wind made it out to the lake to battle in the 15mph SSW winds!!! No one skipper proved to be dominate as finishing places changed with each race and tuning session. Special thanks for the breakfast tacos at noon followed by Mama Seta’s famous spaghetti and meatballs during the afternoon break. There are no skinny pirates at Woodlawn…lol…!!! Be sure to check back over the weekend as we post updates on the exciting exploits of our 10 member Pirate Team competing at this year’s Frostbite regatta in Pasadena, TX…. Eric Gregory, a.k.a. Red-Beard The Pyrate, Woodlawn Sailing Club Victoria Fleet Captain '06 Monday, January 9, 2006 - Notice to all Victoria Skippers!!!: We will be having a Special Victoria R/C Sailing and Tuning Day on Sunday, January 15th at Woodlawn Lake in preparation for The Frostbite Regatta to be held in Pasadena, TX on January 20th - 22nd. Eric Gregory, Woodlawn Sailing Club Victoria Fleet Captain '06 Sunday, January 8, 2006 - It was a fantastic sailing day for the Woodlawn R/C Fleet with sun shine, 77 degrees and SW winds at 10mph! 10 OD39's, 1 IOM and 1 Wind Warrior started off the day running windward/ leewards into a perfect breeze....After the mid-afternoon break 5 Victoria's raced around the buoys practicing for the upcoming Frost Bite Regatta to be held in Pasadena, TX on Jan. 21st-22nd. Our next sailout will be held Sunday, Jan. 15th starting a 12pm sharp for the Victoria R/C and Sunfish fleets.
