An overcast sky and a high temperature of 64 degrees. 10-15mph winds early settling to 0-5 toward the end of the day.   A light sprinkle made the steep bank slippery and one person did fall.  Ray Seta was having electrical problems and in between breaks he could be seen ripping out his electronics and replacing it with all new components.  Mark Hogan was horribly sick and after the first race he announced that he was going home.  We hope that he makes it home OK and gets over what ever it is that's attaching him.
The big news tonight was that JK took a corner to quickly on the way back from racing and the force knocked over a tool box in his truck which smashed into both his and Ray's boats!!!!  Ray's shrouds were broken but easily fixed.  The guys worked on JK's boat a couple of hours before heading over to the Clearpoint Church for the Saturday night dinner.  As always Mark provided a wonderful meal at Clearpoint, but unlike previous Saturday night get-togethers racers were given first rate participation plaques.  Each one of these fine plaques was hand made in the same fashion as the beautiful glass Frostbite trophies.  Speaking of the 1st through 3rd pace trophies...the word 'trophy' is truly an understatement for these magnificent pieces of art work.  Any fine art museum would be lucky to have such wonderful works in their facilities.
After dinner around 15 of us went over to the Cold Stone Ice creamery.  Going out for ice-cream on Regatta Saturday nights has been a tradition for Team San Antonio for several years.    Plenty of small talk and race replays but in general just great fun hanging out with friends....

Here are some photo's taken throughout the day:

Friday, January 20, 2006 - All 10 of the Woodlawn Pyrates have arrived and pillaging and looting has begun in earnest!!!

The water level is much lower than in years past but the lake still has plenty of water left for sailing.  The temperature reached 72 degrees today and winds were high with a periodic sprinkle of rain.  This isn't my idea of FROSTBITE!!!!  This weather is all in advance of a norther which will blow through tonight bringing North winds and a cooler day tomorrow.

This evening 28 skippers including all 10 Woodlawn Racers had dinner together at Willie's Grill.   We all had a great time catching up with old friends and getting to know a few new sailing buddies as well.  After dinner a bunch of us gathered out around Capt. "Rummy" Mark's truck to consume grog and talk racing.  As some folks would turn in for the night others would take their place extending the party late into the evening.  A few photos of this evening's tale gate party are shown below:

Here's the forecast for Saturday and Sunday:

Saturday
Partly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy. Cooler. Highs in the lower 60s. North winds 15 to 20 mph in the morning becoming northeast and decreasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night
Mostly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers in the evening...then a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after midnight. Cooler. Lows in the mid 40s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday
Mostly cloudy with rain and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the upper 50s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming north and increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Red-Beard The Pyrate

Sunday, January 15, 2006 - Extreme competitiveness amongst the Pirates of Woodlawn was evident as they practiced and tuned for next weekend’s Victoria Frostbite regatta.  6 Victoria’s, 1 Wind Warrior and 1 Sea Wind made it out to the lake to battle in the 15mph SSW winds!!!   No one skipper proved to be dominate as finishing places changed with each race and tuning session.   Special thanks for the breakfast tacos at noon followed by Mama Seta’s famous spaghetti and meatballs during the afternoon break.  There are no skinny pirates at Woodlawn…lol…!!!   Be sure to check back over the weekend as we post updates on the exciting exploits of our 10 member Pirate Team competing at this year’s Frostbite regatta in Pasadena, TX….

Eric Gregory, a.k.a. Red-Beard The Pyrate, Woodlawn Sailing Club Victoria Fleet Captain '06
