2005 Frostbite Regatta Reports
From The Woodlawn Racing Team

The Woodlawn Racing Team was back in action on January 21st - 23rd at the Frostbite Regatta in Pasadena, TX!   Updates on the adventures of our sailing hero's are posted below.   For additional information visit our friends at The Clearpoint Model Yacht Club   who sponsored this fabulous regatta. – Good Sailing, Eric Gregory.

Sunday, January 23rd, 9:30pm - Another 16 exciting races were ran this Sunday bringing the Grand Regatta Total to 35!  Team Woodlawn competed against some of the best Vic Racers in Texas and beyond  with the following results: Ray Seta - 2nd, Bud Garcia - 6th, Mark Hogan - 7th, Eric Gregory - 9th, Armando Rivera - 12th, and Tom Kern (the darn Yankee)- 15th.   Great thanks to the folks at The Clearpoint Model Yacht Club for putting on this first rate Victoria event.
[Observation of the Day: Without JK around to help, poor 'old' Ray threw out his back this morning while brushing his teeth
(Yes This is a True Statement).  Mark and Eric were quickly put to work fetching Ray's coffee, putting his boat in the water and all the usual JK duties.  Everyone felt so bad for Ray that we decided to let him come in 2nd.  So now the world knows the truth!  Good Sailing Everyone and see you at the next Victoria event.]

Saturday, January 22nd, 5 pm - Extremely exciting and tight races marked Saturday's portion of the Frostbite Regatta.  The weather exhibited just about every kind of condition except cold.  We started off the day with fog and zero winds and quickly watched the winds ratchet up to 10 to 15 from the Southeast.  As the day went on the winds clocked around to the Northeast and port starts became the norm.  Clouds rolled in and out.  Winds picked up, dropped off, and then picked up again.  Only 17 of the 21 registered competitors were present so odd/even racing was replaced with 17 boat starts.  There were 19 hard fought races in all before we closed up shop for the day!  Race results will be posted tonight after the Saturday night Bar-B-Que at Clearpoint Church.
[Observation of the Day: Ray was so distraught over not having his little buddy JK with him that he launched his boat without turning it on.  The result was a race down wind by 15 boats to catch '24 Carrot' and turn her back to shore.  What we discovered was that '24 Carrot' is much faster on her own than when piloted by Ray!]

And here are the results from Day 1:

Friday, January 21st - Absolutely beautiful day here at Burke/ Crenshaw Park in Pasadena, TX with 10 knot breezes, 75 degree temperature and clear skies overhead.  11 boats were checked including 6 members of the Woodlawn Racing Team. This evening Bob Piper of Lewisville, TX and Gilbert MacLachlan of Chalmette, LA joined Woodlawn Team members: Ray Seta, Tom Kern (the darn Yankee), Mark Hogan, Bruce "Budman" Garcia, and Eric Gregory for an evening out on the town.  Tall sailing stories and good food were had by all!
Tomorrow's skipper's meeting starts at 9:30AM and the first race will start at 10AM.
[Observation of the Day: Ray
(Cheech) is not the same without JK (Chong).  Ray is like a lost child in a Walmart without his little buddy!  Who will bring him his coffee in the morning?  Who will hold his beer during a race?  Stay tuned to find out if Ray survives on his own.]

Wednesday, January 19th - Just in Time for the Frostbite Regatta the National Victoria Rankings are out!  JK and Ray dropped a few spots to 6th and 9th.  Bud jumped into the top 25 in 20th.  Mark Hogan also jumped into the top 25 in 24th.  This is important if they use the top 25 as an automatic invite to Nationals this year again.  Mondo jumped up 50 spots to be 46th.  But the biggest jump was Eric.  He jumped 233 spots up to the 69th spot.   Now let's talk about our poor Yankee Tom. Still in the top 100 but dropped 6 spots to 91st.  For the full listing click here: http://www.victoriarc.org/classranking.htm
