3:06PM, Sunday, April 7th, Phone Update from Ray Seta - 1st place AJ
Moritz, 2nd place Charles Sudduth, 3rd place Chris Macaluso, 4th place
Albert Ross, 5th place Bob Piper, 6th place Mark Cooper, tied for 7th
place Bud Garcia and 8th place John Kuc, 9th place Shawn Cina,
10th place Mark Hogan, 11th place Chuck Porth, 12th place Ray
Seta. 25 boats total, 0-3 mph all morning till 1pm then the
wind filled into 5 mph. Ray Seta with his heavy sails finally
started to get some decent races but it was too late since there were to
be no races later than 2pm. Mark Hogan got 2 bullets in the first
two races and was really smoking today.
The
temperature was cool last night almost cold. We had a great dinner at a
Cajun restaurant with an all you can eat buffet and live entertainment!
The Sooners had a big raffle with lots of cool High Tech products.
Anything won by the Pirates will be donated to the upcoming Alamo Classic
raffle. Tom Kern actually won the donated Victoria kit. He stuffed
the boat in his suitcase and then sold the empty box to Mark Cooper...What a
Pirate...actually Mark knew the box was empty! The pirates marked up and
donated a t-shirt with Pirate graffiti to the raffle. We also prepared a
special t-shirt for our most excellent host Eric Meyn of the
Sooner
State Model Yacht Club.
Note
from The Webmaster: Ray all of us want-to-be's back at the clubhouse really
appreciate your great phone updates!!!! Don't let the fact that we
all yelled in unison, "You Suck" over the speaker phone get you down....
Just know that you've got Tuesday night at Woodlawn ahead of you and we all want
to hear a final recap of your trip..... We might even let you win a
race for a change...."NOT".....lol...!!!!
7:15PM,
Saturday, April 6th, Phone Update from Ray Seta –
We’re at dinner and I have the update on the scores. In first place is AJ with 15 points, Bob Piper is second with 21 points, Charles Sudduth
is in third with 26 points. For our pirates: Bud Garcia in 6th with 38
points, JK in 7th with 38 points, Mark Hogan in 9th place with 51
points, Ray Seta hacking it with 68 points in 15th place and Tom Kern is
in 20th with 80 points. 25 boats total listed on the scoring sheet.
4:30PM, Saturday, April 6th,
Phone Update from Ray Seta – OK Dude, Bob Piper is kicking tail…his
first 4 races were three bullets and a second, he’s getting great port
starts, everything is going great for him! He’s probably sitting up
there in the top 3 with AJ and maybe JK. Hogan is sitting in the middle
of the pack and I’m in the back of the pack. Tom Kern actually beat JK
and me once today…it was so cool, he was ready to pack up and go home
right there! Budman has had some good races and is probably sitting in
the top 10 for sure.
The current course is set where the wind comes
down off the trees vertical and its quite common for boats right next to each
other to be on opposite tacks. Real swirly! They’re thinking of moving the
course out away from the trees tomorrow but there were no changes made today.
The weather has thankfully held out through the day and all we’ve gotten
weather-wise is a light mist.
Hey Hey, King Bob just walked in the door!
Everyone is asking why we made Bob a Pirate and the answer is that he keeps
buying us good stuff…lol…!!! The pirates are taking a vote to fire me from the
head pirate position and replace me with Bob Piper. Apparently I’m bringing the
pirate average down with my poor performance. All they want me to do is event
organization and appearance coordination.
Dinner tonight at 7:30pm at Clint’s Bar and
Grill. If we get in early enough we’ll send out another update, else we’ll
update ya tomorrow morning.
11:20AM, Saturday, April 6th,
Phone Update from Ray Seta – Ok here we go, just starting the 4th
race and our newest pirate Bob Piper is sitting with 3 bullets, he is
smoking! JK and I are sitting with 2’s, 4’s, and 5’s. Tom Kern actually
beat us one race. He actually had a moment of glory and got a 2
bagger, it was hilarious! There are a total of 24 boats up here. The
winds are crappy…light, puffy, and shifty out of the NE and its cold at
65 degrees. It’s rainy and its misty…they have a tent but its just
overall a lousy day. The 4th race is starting in
15 seconds, Bob Piper is set up for a port start, the wind shifted and
he port tacked the entire fleet, he’s really smoking! Mark had a break
down on two races and has only completed one race. In a previous
race Budman and AJ had an incident which was fun to watch. AJ was on port and
Budman was on starboard. AJ was leading the pack and had to do a
360 degree turn. OK, Bob Piper just made it to the weather mark with no one
around him. I’ll call back with more information later today.
10:30PM, Friday, April 5th, Phone
Update
from a Slightly Intoxicated Ray Seta - Dude, were back from dinner and in
the room watching Cinco de Mayo singers on the Spanish Channel, drinking rum,
and dancing with JK…lol….(In
the background JK yells ”Yahoooo!!!!”) 12 of us ate
at Big Lew’s Sports Bar and Grill including Mark Cooper, Don Kenny and all the
regulars. It’s pouring rain up here with rain forecast for all day tomorrow.
The sailing venue looks really good but oh’ that reddish brown water color is
ugly. There were around 18 sailors at the lake when we got there but they were
all beginning to pack up and leave. JK and I were plenty fast today but Mark
Hogan was still struggling with his garbage can sails…We sailed on till 7:30pm
before returning to the hotel to get ready for dinner. I’ll call again
tomorrow morning with another report.
8PM,
Friday, April 5th, Phone Update from Ray Seta - Dude, we’re
on the way to dinner now with all the other Pirates: Piper, Kern, Mark, JK, Bud and me…and we’re going to hook up with the Houston guys. We got
here about 5:30pm to sail. This venue is really nice and in a city park
but the water is dirt ugly red and we have a really challenging wind
direction…JK and I were blazing fast! Bob Piper brought a bunch of
really neat Pirate stuff like head bands, neck straps and the like…the
forecast tomorrow is for a 60% chance of rain but we're prepared. I’ll
send out another message after dinner… |
