April 2nd,
2005 – Light winds
most of the day and a running current made our races more
challenging than ever! Late in the day the winds would periodically
die and the fleet would drift 50 to 75 feet backwards before the
winds would return. We are all sunburned and worn out. Long races
and the Arizona Sun have taken their toll! Here are the results
from Day 1:
#1) Ray Dagenais, Score: 30
#2) John Kuc, Score: 31
#3) Charlie Ellis, Score: 42
#4) Charles Sudduth, Score: 63
#5) Bruce Pyles, Score: 71
#6) Eric Gregory, Score: 73
#7) Michael Mann, Score: 80
#8) Mark Hogan, Score: 90
#9) Ray Seta, Score: 94
#10) Dennis Desprois,
Score: 97
#11) Frank Vela, Score: 112
#12) Robert Shaw, Score: 128
#13) Armando Rivera,
Score: 129
#14) C.J. Van Voorhis, Score: 154
This evening Charles and Ann Sudduth, Armando and Gloria Rivera,
Craig Mackey, Ray Seta, Bruce Pyles, Mark Hogan and Eric Gregory all
had dinner at a place called The Coney Island Diner. We had a
private room all to ourselves and plenty of Victoria talk bounced
around the table. It was a great time with a wonderful group of
people. Good Sailing, Eric Gregory

Friday, April 1st
- We
finally made it to the lake and got our boats on the water around
6:30PM. By this time of day we were the only folks sailing. As
the winds lighten we got a few practice races in before the sun
began to set. John “JK”Kuc, Ray Seta, Mark Hogan, Eric Gregory,
Armando and Gloria Rivera were all present for this after hours Team
Texas practice. Craig Mackey, Michael Mann and Charles Sudduth who
had been sailing prior to the Woodlawn contingent’s arrival watched
from the picnic area just above the dock. Tomorrow Craig tells us
that we will have to move down about 300 foot to another dock to get
away from the weekend traffic in the launch ramp area.
The landscape out here is nothing like what we know in San Antonio.
Everywhere you look there are strange Rocky Monoliths jutting up out
of the ground and mountains can be seen off in the distance. Right
across the lake is the Sun Devil Stadium and Arizona State
University (See Attached Photos). We’ll have more photos and write
ups as the weekend progresses. We can’t get internet access from
the hotel (Thanks Ray) but we have hopes of finding an
internet café soon. Good Sailing, Eric Gregory

connection at the Hotel works.
I never miss an opportunity to promote an event. When you go to
the Woodlawn website, you'll see that we're gearing up for
the
1st
Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta
in October, and anyone who attended the '03 Nationals here,
knows one thing......Mexican food & Texas BBQ!.....promise!
Good
Winds.....Ray Seta - Woodlawn Sailing Club - Team Texas
