UPDATE: March 31st

Members,
One Busy Month:
I can't even begin to tell you how busy the Woodlawn sailing Team has been these last few weeks and months. Well it's only going to get better. With the North Wall dedication done and traveling to Dallas for some of us and still trying to make Sunday sailouts, March has been a busy month. Well let's talk about April since it starts this weekend.
Team Woodlawn: (April 1st-3rd)
Were on the road again and even going out of State. The following folks will be traveling to Phoenix ,AZ this weekend to sail in the AMYA's Region 5 Victoria Champioships. Some of us have already left as of today. Traveling for Team Woodlawn will be:
Eric Gregory
Mark Hogan
John Kuc
Bud Garcia
Armando Riveria
Ray Seta
Hopefully if we have high speed internet hook up at the Hotel we'll be updating as usual each night.
Tuesday Evening Starts: (April 5th)
Day Light Savings Time starts this weekend so don't forget to change your clocks. This will also mean the change to our sailing schedule. Every Tuesday Evening will be our annual OD39/IOM sailing at the lake starting about 6 PM and going till dark.
9th Annual OD39 Regatta: (April 9th)
It's on a Saturday, so go to the link on our site and see the details. Onsite tradition of Fajita BBQ will be served and we would really appreciate that if any members come out to enjoy the day and even racers, bring something like a dessert of salad for lunch for all of us.
Earth Day Celebration: (April 16th)
Saturday the 16th will be tha annual City's Celebration of Earth Day. This is an official Fiesta event and has grown in size every year at the lake. I attended the organizer meeting this week and collected the Parking Pass that will be needed to get into the Parking Lot. Police Officiers will not let anyone onto the Island with out a Parking Pass. We as the Sailing Club will have special permission to leave our cars in the Parking Area at the launching ramp all day. Evreyone else including vendors will not have this privilage. I have worked this out with the organizer has we will be having a Radio Control veiwing/sailing day set up at the clubhouse. So I'm contacting all R/C members in the club that can bring out the "big toys" and really put a nice show on. Contact me as soon as posible to get your Parking Pass, as this is the only way to get to the parking lot and minimize your walk to the clubhouse. Also let me mention that this event at the lake will also have over 55 vender and booths, all promoting Earth Day with entertainment and Food. This is a free event for the whole family and I encourage all members to come and enjoy. But I only have a limited number of Parking Pass, so contact me if you really need one to park close.
50th Annual Fieasta Ragatta: (April 23rd)
Once again I steer you back to the website for details on the Sunfish Fiesta Regatta. Gene & Rana Camargo are chairpersons for this activity and I'm sure they will be contacting certain folks to help get things done. Gene has promised that this should be a special event since it's the 50th, so we're all looking forward to this one. Word has it that we may get some Sunfish sailors from Dallas and Austin this year. So come on out and enjoy this one also.
Future Annouced Event: (Oct. 7th -9th)
The 1st Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta has been announce Nationally and will be chaired up by Eric & Lea Gregory. This regatta will be a huge event with many folks traveling in from all over the country. Many of these folks were here in 2003 for the Nationals and have all said they want to come back for a couple of reasons, and the top one being the Clubs amenities and of course the Food!  Eric is gearing up the website just like he did for Nationals in 2003, and is already in the works with press/media/promotion/hype. This is already shaping up as a great well attended event.
Clubhouse Cleaning:
The cleaning schedule set up at the clubhouse with members all taking their turns has really worked out well. Thanks for chipping in  on this. Let's keep up the good work. If your name is down for a month , please stick to it as we're all counting on ya,
As you can see that's something every weekend at the lake and let's not forget Tuesday Evening now also for the month of April. As you can also see that this has been quite a couple of months for me here and I for one am looking forward to May for a break. Also let me mention that it's 2005/2006 Membership dues time. So when you come out to the lake for at least one of these events please make it a point to pay up dues for next year. We have some maintenance issues we need to address here soon on the clubhouse, so were trying to build the treasury a bit before we start.
Thanks again and Good Winds... Ray Seta - Commodore '05

North Wall Artwork Story:  I want to thank all you that came out from the Club at the strange time of day of 4:30pm. Charlotte & Paul Kahl, Valerie & Rick Elliot, Carl & Lucy Seta, Tony Seta, and myself made it to the lake for the nice dedication and unveiling of the North Wall Artwork. With the flags flying on the flagpole and the refreshment table in place, it really was a nice site when folks walked up. I served as MC for the dedication and was honored to introduce all the dignitaries and help organize the event. Mariana Peralta Dannelly of the Deco District did all the promotion and sending out Press Releases to the Media. The two young artist Gilbert and Lorna from the Askew Design Studio was on hand to accept a very nice round of applause. Thank you goes to Mama Seta and Charlotte for bringing the food and refreshments for all afterwards. Many of the folks in attendance were very happy to stay and enjoy our hospitality and hang out in the clubhouse and the patio. This was a very good chance also for many community leaders to see what the Sailing Club is all about.  So next time you out at the Clubhouse, make sure you peek around the corner on the North wall and view the Mural. Thanks again to all in attendance.............Ray Seta

UPDATE: March 13th

Light winds started off today's final Victoria R/C practice at Woodlawn Lake.   By the end of the day the winds had simply become overpowering!   Great practice but low turnout with only Eric and Lea Gregory and Armando Rivera taking to the waters.  For The Woodlawn Racing Team this was the final practice before The White Rock Regatta VIII to be held in Dallas, TX March 18th - 20th.  - Good Sailing, Eric Gregory.

UPDATE: March 7, 2005 -

Members,

Will this rain ever stop on Weekend? Seems like that every weekend the rain comes. We've only been able to have a few scheduled sailouts on the past Sundays. But when the sun comes does come out on Sunday AM, the sailors do come out. Eric Gregory(webmaster) has done a great job with updating the webpage's "crawl" after each day of sailing. The new 2005 WSC's Schedule is also posted for all to check from time to time. If anyone would like any other sailing events listed just send the info to Eric and he'll add in the schedule.

Mosaic Tile Artwork
The clubhouse's North wall Artwork will be dedicated at a brief ceremony on March 22, 2005 at 4:30 PM at the Clubhouse. Please go to our webpage to see the official invitation to all WSC's members and families. I know that 4:30 PM may be a bit difficult for some folks to make, and that is completely understandable, but if you can make it for and help represent the Club it would be appreciated. The reason for the 4:30 PM time is for the Press and Dignitaries can all plan to be there. Please check out the website for details:

Upcoming Events & Travels
The biggest and most exciting event to come up for us here at Woodlawn will be the
50th Annual Fiesta Sunfish Regatta on April 23rd. This event is being organized by Gene & Rana Camargo. The list of committees has been made and many of the Club's members are stepping up for the job. Below is a brief list of folks that have committed to these job and believe me I could not be more appreciative. So let's keep the momentum and please contact any of the folks below and volunteer to help.

I'm sure as time gets closer to this event, Gene will be contacting folks directly for instructions or volunteers as needed. Oh and by the way let's get all those Sunfish back in the water, not only for the Fiesta Regatta but also the 3rd Sundays sailout every month. Don't let the word Regatta scare ya, it a fun event with a Gold and Silver fleet for all. Oh did I mention the food!!!!!!!

Out of Town Regattas
Team Woodlawn will be packing up for another road trip in a couple of weeks to go to Dallas and sail in the Annual White Rock Charity Victoria Regatta on March 19-20th.
Don't know if Eric will be doing updates but keep checking the website for up to date tidbits/results about club members throughout the weekend. And with these successful and fun trips racing the Victoria's, it has pumped up a couple of our Club members to go ahead and commit to organizing for hosting an annual event at Woodlawn in October. At White Rock the official announcement of the 1st Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta will be made. Stay tuned for more details to come in the near future. Members of Team Woodlawn will also be traveling to Phoenix, AZ in April for the Victoria Regional Championships.

OD-39 Regatta
The 8th Annual Alamo Classic OD 39 Regatta will be held for our very own One-Meter R/C boat on April 9th, 2005. Go to Website for detail to come.

Earth Day 2005
On April 16th, 2005 at the lake will be the officials City's Earth Day Celebration. Even though in past years we have not participated with Sunfish in past years as our Fiesta Regatta is the next Saturday, they have asked if maybe we could be sailing some of the Radio Control boats that day. I will arrange with promoters to allow us to have special Parking privileges to park as usual in Parking lot. This is a nice day at the park for the whole family with activities planned all day by the organizers of the event.

Clubhouse Cleaning Committee
The new system of each member signing up for a month of Clubhouse cleaning has been a total success. We have gone through 2 months now of the member to sign up and complete their duties and I must say it has worked out great. I believe all 12 months now are signed up for. Please let me or Papa Seta know if any cleaning supplies are needed as we go through the year.

Change of Schedule
Don't forget that on April 3rd, that the beginning of Day Light Savings Time will begin. This will also be the start of our club's Spring/Summer schedule. The main change will be the Tuesday evening sailing will begin. This has been a real success in the past three years and it's has even brought to us some new members that have even continued to come up and keep their dues paid up. Come join us on Tuesday Evenings at 6 PM!

Membership Dues
For all the members that have renewed their dues for the 2005/2006 year , we appreciate your support. Remember that April is our big Membership Drive month and for you all that have not renewed in a while, it would be nice to continue to have your support. At $50/year it's a bargain just to access to the refrigerators and it's content when you come out. Please send in your dues to Mike Minerva, 31327 Tres Lomas, Bulverde,TX  78163    When mailing your dues in please drop a small note to Mike to send a new Membership card to you if needed.

This Weekend - March 13th @ noon
A quick word from me for Eric Gregory(WSC's Victoria Fleet Captain). This coming Sunday is the 2nd Sunday sailout at noon. If we are fortunate enough to get out of the weekend rain pattern then it will be the usual OD / IOM day for sailing. But with the upcoming Victoria Regatta in Dallas the following weekend, this could be a final last chance for tuning for the Team Woodlawn guys. So bring your Victoria also to practice a bit.

Looking for Content
If anyone else from WSC is ever traveling to out of town regatta, we want to hear about it. We are always looking for content for the website to promote you and your results/story. Feel free to submit any content to Eric or myself via e-mail and we make sure the club knows about it.

Update: February 13th, 2005 -

OD 39 R/C Sailing - The November 13th outing was simply spectacular as 7 OD39's screamed through the water on this beautiful, sunny, 77 degree day.  After a week of gloomy, soggy weather the clouds parted and the sun shown down on South Texas bringing an early taste of Spring.  The day was so perfect that it was down right criminal to stay in doors!  As usual the club house was full of good sailing buddies and Woodlawn park was full of joyous people enjoying this incredible break from Winter.
The Texas OD39 is an absolute pleasure to sail and Sunday's brisk winds made these sailing hot rods all the more enjoyable.   Their brightly colored hauls and cartoon decorated sails added to the festive feel of the day.  The 9th Annual Alamo Classic OD39 Regatta is just around the corner (April 10th) and it would be great to see more OD's out on the water!  Our next OD39 Sail out is scheduled for February 27th.  Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events:
Feb. 20th, 12-5PM, Sunfish Sailing and Victoria R/C Sailing at Woodlawn Lake
Feb. 27th, 12-5PM, OD39 R/C Sailing and IOM R/C Sailing at Woodlawn Lake
Mar. 06th, 12-5PM, "Run What You Brung" R/C Sailing Day at Woodlawn Lake

UPDATE: January 21, 2005 -

Members,

Just wanted to drop a quick note before we (Team Woodlawn) head over to Houston this weekend for the Frostbite RC Regatta. Depending on the Internet connection at the hotel, Eric Gregory(Webmaster) says he will try to update the WSC's homepage from day to day with some updates. So keep tabs on us and results of the seven members heading over there throughout the weekend. Our website is again:    www.woodlawnsailingclub.org

As you know for the last year or so I have been working with the young artist from the ASKEW Art Studio, located in the Deco District on Frederickburg Rd, with the 5 foot by 3 foot tile mosaic mural for the sailing club that would be installed on the North exterior wall of the clubhouse. This artwork is a gift and tribute to past Mayor Lila Cockerel and all her contribution she does for the Parks Department. Woodlawn Lake has always been her favorite City Park and having a piece of the young artist's tile work was her idea for the Sailings Club Clubhouse. So through the past year I and some of the members of the club have worked with the idea and conceptual drawing of the artist to come up with a piece that was fitting with or wishes and the WSC members. Well I think we have done it and the piece has been installed. It is absolutely beautiful and I hope you will think so also. As soon as all the schedules of the right peoples and organizations can coordinate, there will be an official dedication of the piece at the lake soon to come. I will keep everyone posted on that date and time. It would be nice for as many WSC's members to show up for this short dedication to show our support to the community and city for all there positive work concerning the Lake and Park. Until then feel free to go by the lake and view the piece and enjoy, as it will be forever a part of our clubhouse. Thanks for your support throughout the year with this!

Update:  January 4th, 2005

Members,
Happy New Year to all for 2005. Well it's winter and we've only one week here a few weeks ago that it felt like it. Just this past Sunday I was sailing in shorts and T-shirt, can you believe it? Of course that's why we live in Texas!

2004 Annual General Membership Meeting:
We had a great turnout and very pleasant weather for the AGM Meeting back in December. Of course we had the spread of food and drink for all and let me thank everyone for bringing all the Salads and Desserts. We had the fireplace going and even had some long time past members show up and visit just to pay their annual dues, and of course eat! Some of the important points of the meeting that were discussed were as follows.

WSC Treasury Balance - Mike Minerva(Treasurer) gave his report for the year and noted that out cash balance for the club is at $1266. As he detailed all the cash income and expenses throughout the year, he did note that our Restroom maintenance cost had dropped for the year as did our beverage consumption also declined. Couldn't help but wonder if there be some correlation between the beer consumption and the Restroom expenses....hmmm makes you think! All in all this is a good year end balance knowing that 2005 Dues will be now coming in now for us. Anyone wishing to mail their 2005 Dues in to Mike can do so at his home address of    31327 Tres Lomas ,   Bulverde,Tx.  78163 . Drop a note to Mike if you need a new Membership Card and he'll mail you one back. Yearly dues($50) are/will be good till April 2006.

Clubhouse Monthly Clean-up schedule - It was asked and approved to make up a clipboard for signing up on a monthly basis to be responsible for the normal clean-up duties of the clubhouse. This past Sunday the clipboard is now hanging at the club and ready for Members to take on a month and be responsible for normal clean-up duties. This clipboard has a minimum of items listed that need to be looked at in order to help us keep the Clubhouse clean. Just this past Sunday we were able to fill up six(6) month of 2005 with the members who came out to sail that day. This was great response and hope that other members will make the trip to the lake and help out by signing up for an empty month as needed. any suggestion concerning keeping the Clubhouse clean for all to enjoy will be appreciated if you have any. Thanks again for the members that quickly signed up.

50th Annual Sunfish Fiesta Regatta - As the name says this years Fiesta Regatta will be a special one. I'm asking for some special help this year from our members to help plan it. We already have the date of April 23, 2005. Please start thinking of some way you can help with this event as we want this one to be special. We're thinking a nice raffle to help with the cost of this event and some special promotion with the news media and the papers to know about it also. With Gene & Rana Camargo, Charlotte & Paul Kahl, and the Seta Family probably taken the lead with various committee's, we will be hoping and asking for help from all to pitch in a bit with help. From just obtaining raffle items, trophy and T-shirt design to maybe helping with the food, there will be something for all to help with. What I hope to do is to get a list of committees and volunteers together on a clipboard and ask folks what they would like to help out with or sign up for. Again any ideas and help with this event will be greatly appreciated.

WSC Clubhouse Tile Artwork - In the next month or so the students of the ASKEW Art studio will be presenting the WSC Club Member with the 3'x5' mural that will be installed on the North wall of the clubhouse and will have a dedication ceremony in the February upon completion. Collen and Tom Frost were not able to attend the AGM meeting as planned to give a talk and introduce the young artist who are doing this piece, and do apologize for this. But wanted all WSC members to know that they are welcome to come by the ASKEW Art Studio located at 1908 Fredericksburg Rd to view the piece in progress. I will keep all informed on the progress of this and the date of the dedication.

woodlawnsailingclub.org :
This past year we again were able to pick up more members from finding and viewing our website thanks to Eric & Lea Gregory. We were able to also keep our members in touch with a group of us that traveled to Detroit to race in the Victoria Nationals Championships. The website has turned out to be a great asset and great tool to help us promote the club and it's members. I have turned over the new 2005 schedule for Eric to post on the site and I'm sure it will be up soon. Please refer to the sight on occasion to stay updated on upcoming sailing dates and what will be featured that day. Thanks again to Eric for spending time to do this for us.

Thanks & Good Winds
