Blow Out Regatta Reports from The Woodlawn Racing Team

The Woodlawn Racing Team was back in action March 10, 11 and 12 at the 2006 Blow Out Regatta in Dallas, TX!  Updates on the adventures of our sailing hero's are posted below.

March 12th, 2006 - The Blow Out final day tally was 30 complete races and 61 heats!!!  Once again the winds were howling and the waves came crashing through the course.  "C" rigs ruled the day as IOM hauls would disappear behind waves only to reappear as rockets blasting out over the tops of the next rollers!   This regatta was an absolute blast and from what I've been told this was the fifth year in a row to have such exciting conditions...

Woodlawn's newly acquired IOM fleet continued to suffer from breakdowns.  Eric had some great races today but was once again plagued with numerous tech problems.  Mark had to perform a major boat repair that put him out for most of the day.  JK was at a tremendous disadvantage without a "C" rig and  I expect that he'll be purchasing one prior to the next regatta.  The only one of our group without problems was our fearless leader Ray Seta who "hacked" his way into the "A" Fleet and stayed their for most of the day.

Tech problems or not, this regatta was magnificent and I can guarantee that Team Woodlawn will be back next year for more high wind adventure!

March 10th, 2006 - The Blow Out Regatta completely lived up to its name today providing "B" and "C" rig conditions all afternoon!   Massive white capping wave catapulted our IOM's into the air on upwind beats and provided tsunami style surfing on the down wind runs...  Everyone except Ray Seta seemed to have technical problems.  Eric's servos continually failed all afternoon and eventually they fried leaving him out of the final few races!!!  Fortunately, replacement servos were found and Eric will be back on the water Saturday ready to scratch and claw his way back up the race standings. This evening Brig North invited the racers to his beautiful home for pizza and beer.  Great comradery and sailing spirit were shared and enjoyed by all...

Tomorrow's races begin at 9am.  Light winds are expected tomorrow with more heavy weather action on Sunday.   Good Sailing, Eric Gregory
