ASSISTANCE WITH WRITE UPS:
As a last request, we
would love to publish on this website any write ups
from our skippers describing their experiences at
the Alamo Classic. Our best material always seem
to come from our valiant skippers and we welcome
your assistance. If you’re interested, please send

5:01PM, 10/8/06 – CLEANING:
The clubhouse has been cleaned, the grounds policed,
and all equipment has been broken down and placed in
storage or packed away for transport home. The only
thing remaining is the 40X30 tent. At precisely 1
minute after 5pm, as the racers are walking to their
cars, up drives the professional tent crew to start
its disassembly. I’m sure they will have it broken
down and be on their way within the next half hour.

4PM,
10/8/06 – THANKS:
I’d like to give my personal thanks to everyone who
participated in or volunteered to help with the
Alamo Classic. It takes a team effort to put on an
event of this complexity and it simply couldn’t have
be done without the cooperation of the 20 Woodlawn
volunteers and 30 racers. Everyone please drive
home carefully, buckle up and we’ll see you next
year when Woodlawn hosts the Region 5 Victoria
Championship Regatta.

|
3:30PM, 10/8/06 – TROPHY PRESENTATION:
Bob
Piper of LLYC has donated beautifully crafted
miniature treasure chest so that the Pirates of
Woodlawn can keep a better hold of their cursed gold
coins. As everyone remembers cursed gold coins were
taken by each of the competitors of last years
Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta. The
curse states that the Alamo Classic and its Pirate
hordes must continue on forever unless every gold
coin is returned. We’ll typical Pirates that they
are they lost, had stolen or more likely spent their
Pirate gold on sprits and beautiful women. With
all of the new folks joining in on the curse its now
starting to look like the Alamo Classic will be
going on for years while we search the world over
for our pirate gold. Just in time for the trophy
presentation Nelda Tallman brought out the final
race results for the regatta. Each of our
competitors starting with 30th place was
issued a new treasure chest for their pirate gold.
The top five competitors were given trophies hand
crafted from Brazilian Iron Wood by Woodlawn member
Ray Mireles. Our final ceremony was to invite JK to
the podium where he declared this “The Best Regatta
Ever”!!!!!

3:10PM, 10/8/06 – RAFFLE PART 2:
the raffle was a big hit thanks’ to Mama’s home made
dog bone and pirate pillows and her Super Hot
Victoria haul covers and rudder socks. Our final
big prize for the day was an EC12 haul and mast
donated by Larry Ludwig of Ludwig Model Yachts.
Wonderful donation Larry, we are extremely grateful
to you. Long before the raffle begun everyone was
commenting on how difficult it would be for a
non-local to take the EC12 home. We’ll as fate
would have it the competitor farthest from home, Tom
Kern of Basking Ridge, NJ won!!!! Not to worry
though, we’ll make arrangement to ship the haul to
New Jersey on Monday.

2:30PM, 10/8/06 – FINAL HEAT AND FUN RACE:
After running our last heat for the day all boats
headed down to the water for a fun race titled “THE
INTERGALACTICA, ALAMO CLASSICA”. The course ran
once around all 6 buoys set-up on the race course.
While the Intergalactica, Alamo Classica was
occurring we brought the scoring team back up to the
club house to begin computing the race results.
During this time Raffle man extraordinaire, Tony
Seta began selling as many raffle tickets as
possible prior to the raffle of our “Primo” prizes.

2PM,
10/8/06 – CHASE BOAT #2:
After two days of service and a number of boat
rescues and mark changes our good friend Randy
Rimmer began to pack up his inflatable to head home
for an appointment. I can’t thank Randy enough for
the help he provided over the weekend. I especially
appreciate the Chili and Cornbread he and his wife
provided for the Saturday night Chili Cook-off.
Thanks Randy, see you soon for OD racing.

12:40PM, 10/8/06 – RACING RESUMES:
During lunch RD John Oliveira “J.O.” busily
adjusted marks to eliminate swirls coming off of a
bank of trees to the east of the race course. When
racing resumed 5-10 mph winds out of the open
southeast section of the lake began to blow steadily
keeping the sailors and shore spectators on their
toes. J.O. frequently changed the course prior to
the first boat rounding the leeward mark in order to
keep the race course as true to the wind as
possible. He did an excellent job throughout the
afternoon and we can’t thank him enough for his
help. In addition to serving as RD JO placed out
all of the marks and made the morning coffee. |

10AM, 10/8/06 – RACING BEGINS:
Racing begins but not without distraction as the
beautiful pirate chick that we promised to have
serve drinks to returning champion Ron Stephanz
hourly showed up on her Harley Davidson. Ron took
one look at our little darling and let Capt. Jack
Seta know that it was really OK if he didn’t get
served drinks! We think he was just a tad bit
intimidated by her scantily clad outfit and cool
biker tattoos.... Several times prior to the start
of the first race Sheryl from the race committee had
to ask through the loud speaker that our sailors
keep their eye’s on their boats and not on the
girl! After 10 minutes of pathetic drooling and
boat crashing we decided that it was in the best
interest of the race to just take a few hundred
photos and then send her home!

9:30AM, 10/8/06 – SKIPPER’S MEETING:
Eric Gregory gave the schedule for the day’s
activities and thanked Joe Sheffield for the
outstanding night security that he had volunteered
to perform on both Friday and Saturday nights. The
Saturday night Chili Cook-Off was discussed with the
following results being read out to the crowd: Tom
Kern, Mildest, Lea Gregory, Most Beans, Charles
Sudduth, Best Consistency, Nelda Tallman, Best
Appearance, Jerry McBride, Thickest, Don Keeney,
Meatiest, Randy Rimmer, Most Spice and Mark Cooper
with Best Overall. Eric offered his thanks to all
the competitors for making the Chili cook-off a
success!
