Racers, As
some of you Yankees may believe that Texas was
going to be blown off the face of the map this
past weekend and thought it would affect our
fun. You couldn't be more wrong. We never
even got the wind from Rita. Everything is a go
for the
The Inaugural Alamo Classic
Victoria Regatta
on October 7-9 in less than two weeks here in
San Antonio. This is a full blown Green Chevron
event with Sponsors, T-shirts, food (lots of
food!), a mega raffle, and plenty of shade to go
around. Eric Gregory is the Chairman for this
event and he has lined up all the Pirates of
Woodlawn to throw the Grand Finale Regatta for
2005 for Region
5. The Les Lac YC boys from Dallas, headed up by
Charles Sudduth, will be coming down with 8
boats and have even promised to feed everyone on
Saturday night, dubbing it the
Inaugural
Victoria Texas Chili Cook-off.
So for complete information and probably the
most informative website, Notice of Race,
pre-photos of Raffle prizes and T-shirt design,
go to the Woodlawn Sailing Club's website at
www.woodlawnsailingclub.org I know it may seems that gas prices are going thru the ceiling, and they are. But don't worry with the amount of Mexican Food we serve and the Chili Cook-off, I'm sure there will be enough (gas!) for everyone! And if your from way out of town, the San Antonio guys are well aware that it's far cheaper to fly/drink than to drive to some regattas. Think about it!!! It is not to late to register. To date we have 27 skippers from as far away as New Jersey and clear across the country in Seattle,WA. Even if you can't make it you can purchase the event T-shirt or Raffle tickets by filling out the form under "extra order". Just FYI - Region 5 in 2006 will be having 5 possible 6 major Victoria events next year. All Chevron events and all counting for your Nationals Ranking.
Hope to see ya in San Antonio on Columbus Day
Weekend, Home of the Pirates of Woodlawn and the
"Black Pearl".....argh!

September 6th, 2005 –
As of today the host hotel,
‘Best
Western Posada Ana/Medical Center’,
claims to only have a few
reservations for
The Inaugural Alamo Classic
Victoria Regatta.
With 19 out of town participants
registered for the
Alamo Classic I though I’d
better run up this red flag! Woodlawn has
a hold on
rooms till Sept. 6th, at a rate of $59.99 per
night. Anytime after this date you’re on your
own for the rate of $79.00+. If you’ve already
made arrangements with the host hotel at a
higher rate I suggest that you call the hotel
and mention that your reservation is for the
"Woodlawn Sailing Club's Alamo Classic Victoria
Regatta" so that you can obtain the adjusted
rate. If you haven’t made arrangements at all
then I strongly encourage you to call
and make arrangements today!
I’ve included the contact information for the
Best Western below: There are a number of great reasons to stay at the Best Western Posada Ana including: (1.) nearness to the regatta site, (2.) comradery with other sailors, (3.) nearness to the official “Dutch” evening get together locations, (4.) car pooling, (5.) price breaks, (6.) wireless internet access for all of you home club reporters, and last but not least (7.) beat the “Black Pearl” strategy meeting room!!!! Also, I encourage everyone to arrive on Friday the 7th so that you can check into your hotel room and find your way to Woodlawn Lake during the day light. There has been some road construction that makes I-10 look different than it did the last time we had a Victoria regatta in San Antonio. The roads will be clear though and we will be sure to give a traffic update the week prior to the Alamo Classic. If you are in town on Friday the 7th you can also join the San Antonio regulars and pirate crew for a dinner out on the town! This will be an entertaining and enjoyable event so make your plans now. Please feel free to e-mail me at: egregory@satx.rr.com if you need additional information or assistance with any aspect of your hotel reservation.

August 15th, 2005 -
Skippers, Time for yet another update and opportunity to plug the The Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta in San Antonio on October 7-9. We(WSC) believe in a constant flow of information to keep folks informed and pumped up. Here's what happening. As of this weekend we here at Woodlawn had to come to a decision about the success of the registration process and the response that we are getting. We truly will now have to limit this event to the first 36 skippers that sign up and RSVP their channel and follow the registration process. We are currently at 26 skippers and we still have about 2 months to go till race day. So if you do the math we only have 10 slots open. We will not add another fleet and here's why. We feel that it wouldn't be fair for the folks that have registered for this two day event and weather permitting we offer as much racing as possible for those two days using the standard regatta format. By jumping over the standard 36 FCC Channels (61-90) and the six(6) 27Mhz Channel we would have to add a third fleet and reduce everyone racing by 30% and still charge the same amount of money, just because more folks wanted to enter. Those of you who have hosted regatta before of big #'s know that 20 on a line is a lot to manage. This doesn't include the use of those FCC private channels that some folks use - this is over and above the 36 - ya'll can register. Let me
also put this is some terms that some of you may
be able to relate better to. What if we here at
Woodlawn invited ya'll for a great dinner and we
said we were planning for 36 skippers to attend
to pig-out. And we know how much everyone likes
the Mexican Food at Woodlawn! And all of a
sudden more folks turn up and we say fine we'll
just cut everyone's portions by 30% and still
charge the same....I think this would be uncool
in some folks book, especially those heavy eater
Yankees we always love to cater to.....lol...
At this point for just FYI, there are about a
half a dozen definite maybes out there that have
e-mailed us and asked questions and have not
registered. You know who are! You better get
registered cause it looks like we might have to
go to a waiting list pretty soon.
So if your thinking of registering for this
event, go to the following link to go to the
current "Entries" list and snag a channel and
get registered. This is shaping up to be the
biggest regatta in Texas. http://www.woodlawnsailingclub.org/ACVR/Freqency-Skippers.htm Or you can just go to: www.woodlawnsailingclub.org and browse our website. Be sure you check out the "Question & Comments" link. It's really good, fun reading by some skippers already. Feel free to join in the fun! Thanks for your time! Congratulations to Craig Mackey for his win at Nationals! We heard you're coming to the Classic - get registered!
I don't know what to say to Peter Siek(2nd)
except you're still a hacker down
here!....lol..... Luvya guys! |

August 1st, 2005 -
Hey there
Folks, Registration for The Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta will begin in just a few hours! The forms are complete and will be linked to the website right at 6pm (Central Standard Time). Word has it that a bunch of people will be trying to register this evening so I'll stay vigilant and make sure that the Entries page is updated at least every ½ hour till 11pm this evening. If you see Frequency conflicts on the Entries page, contact that skipper first and see if the two of you (or three) can work it out. E-mail addresses will be linked to the registering skippers on the Entries page. With your help, we will try to eliminate all frequency conflicts. Listed below are some simple recommendations when registering. This same information is listed on the Registration and Confirmation pages so please don't feel the need to absorb everything below right now.
SPECIAL NOTE: In case you are wondering, not
even
Ray Seta
knows the link to the
Registration
page yet!
(I did
tell his buddy Chong, but I'm pretty sure he
doesn't remember)
We're going to make this fair regardless of what
Ray wants! |

July 23rd, 2005

OK Racers, Time for what I call a promotional
moment paid for by the
Woodlawn Sailing Club -
San Antonio, TX.
With The July heat down here in the 100's, we
can safely say it's going to be cooler in
October for yet another Texas Circuit Regatta
for 2005.
The Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta
will be held on October 7-9. And we only use
that big word "Inaugural" for some
Yankee that
told us we had to (Tom C.), and I have to look
it up in the dictionary every time I spell it!
Registration entry form for this event will be released online starting on August 1st at 6:00 PM (Central Standard Time). We won't make it a war of minutes at midnight like we did in 2003 Nationals and sold-out I might say. For all the information on this event that you would ever need including Host Hotel, Raffle Prizes, and even photos of the Perpetual Trophy, Go to the website that our webmaster (Eric Gregory) has put together for our club and regatta. It's one of the most informative NOR's that you will probably ever see. And if you have any question and/or comments, there is even a page for that. Go to The Woodlawn's site at: www.woodlawnsailingclub.org This event is an AMYA Green Chevron event and plans to become an annual event in Region 5 for 2006. It will join up with other Texas Victoria premier events like Frosbite(Houston) in January, White Rock(Dallas) in March, and possibly another event TBA later in Austin, TX. Just in case you haven't heard of Woodlawn Sailing Club, we have held Nationals for the Victoria in 2003, Nationals for Star 45 in 2002, and numerous IOM Regionals in the past years. And all the rumors are true. We do have a rule in the Sailing Instructions that state the you will not go home hungry at this event. Ask anyone who has been to Woodlawn in San Antonio, TX. Word has it that we even have the Yankees coming down for this one! Check out the NOR and hope to see ya in San Antonio, (Home of the NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs - Again!) (I had to include that shameless plug for my buddy Frank Vella wearing the pink Spurs shirt in Toronto.) Ray Seta - Victoria # ? - Commodore WSC - Don't Mess with Texas! |

Fellow
competitors, And that also includes the Yankees up North! This is to formally announce that the "Notice of Race" and "Sailing Instructions" are now posted for the long awaited for The Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta in San Antonio, TX. on Columbus Day Weekend of October 7-9. Many of you will remember that this was same weekend we held the 2003 Victoria Nationals on but this year Eric & Lea Gregory, regatta organizers, have assure us of better weather. If you didn't attend that event, talk to anyone who did and ask them if the Woodlawn Sailing Club knows how to throw a regatta. I promise you won't go home hungry! Eric being the Webmaster Extraordinaire that he is, has put together all the information about this event you will ever need to know. And if you do have any questions he has even put together a question/answer/comment page for all to participate with if need be. As the year go on we will releasing more information about raffle prizes and even pictures of the "Alamo Classic Hull of Fame" half hull trophy being built just for this event. This event was announce back in March and word got out fast amongst everyone who is wanting to return to SA for yet another premier event. Our hope is that this event will become as prestigious as Texas's own White Rock Cup (Dallas) and Frostbite (Houston) in future years. As you know from the 2003 Nationals, the feed of information to the skippers will be constant, either through this Forum or our (WSC's) website as the year goes on. We have come to know that this is a great way to generate enthusiasm/hype and guarantee a successful event. So go to the Woodlawn Sailing Club's website below and look at "Sponsored Races" on the left and click on "1st Annual Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta" for all the info you will need for Hotels, Maps/ Directions, and announcements throughout the upcoming Months. www.woodlawnsailingclub.org Thank you for this time and space to shamelessly plug my clubs events!
