The Overview:

WOODLAWN LAKE PARK is a City of San Antonio Park that consists of the 38 acre Lake with the park surrounding it.  A 1.33 mile asphalt walking trail, for roller blading, walking/jogging goes around the park.  Basketball, Tennis, and playgrounds are also part of the park.

Upon arrival you will be parking in a private parking lot for WSC members.  We will have someone out at the gate greeting you and directing you in for the first few hours, or at least till the Skippers Meeting.  The clubhouse is easy to see next to the flagpole that will be flying the colors of the club.  Next to the clubhouse will be a 40X20 foot rigging tent for all skippers to rig and repair boats, there will be electrical power if needed (limited).  Our club house patio, 30X18 feet will be shaded as well.  Our club house which is approximately 30X18 brick building with a modest little kitchen area and we also have our own restroom facilities.  All registered skippers will receive an event T-Shirt with there registration, as well as lunches.  We will also have a Continental type Breakfast set up for you.  (Coffee/Juice/Pastries) in the morning when you arrive.

We have our own launching docks and rescue boat, so wadding in the water is not necessary.  For the regatta we will have one(1) rescue boat for boat rescues and quick mark relocation, in the need of a wind shift.  This boat will be manned by experienced R/C sailors that will know how to handle a boat in the case of a rescue.  These people are all serious racers in other classes, so they know racing and will know where to stay out of the skippers paths while racing.  We will also have for the event a Race Director that is a US SAILING certified Race Officer.  Racing will run till approximately noon and then break for lunch (provided).  We will also be serving lunch on Sunday.  We will have beer, sodas, and water for all racers during the day. Extra Meal Tickets will be available for purchase for additional family or guest at a minimal charge. Racing will resume soon after lunch and run till approximately 5:00PM(Sat.) and 2:30PM(Sun.).  Trophy's to follow on Sunday.

So as you can see we are trying to simulate a big boat regatta in every way.  Our club doesn't know how to do it any other way.  We welcome you and your family to this event.  Our location offers a great viewing area from the clubhouse, and family and guest are encouraged to come enjoy.  Temps in October are generally mild and cool when the occasional cold front would hit this time a year. But mainly still warm with a gentle South breeze at 10-15mph.

As you may of notice, this event is being held on Columbus Day Weekend for a reason. It is our intention that we would hope that most people traveling would use the extra day off as a leisurely travel day to go home. Use Sunday evening as a chance to take your family down to our beautiful River Walk for a nice dinner and enjoy what San Antonio has to offer.

So on behalf of the WOODLAWN SAILING CLUB, I invite all to enjoy our event that we will be hosting for you and please feel free to contact me directly if any additional or specific info is needed.

Good Winds......... Eric Gregory, Regatta Chairman for The Inaugural Alamo Classic Victoria Regatta

Spectators: I can't even begin to explain our Venue and it's layout. But check out some of the pictures in our WSC Gallery from past events and you can get an idea on what a great site this is. We have already hosted some Major Events, such as the 2002 Star 45 Nationals, 2002 & 2003 Region 5 IOM Championships, and the 2003 Victoria Nationals.  The number of spectators will be like nothing you have ever seen for this City Park. It has been said by some of the Who'-Who's of the R/C Sailing World that this could be one of the top 5 Sailing Sites in the USA for R/C Sailing. Bring the Family!!!!
Parking: Our parking is just a short walk from the Clubhouse. Close enough that some competitors can use their vehicles for battery charging, but we will have 110v power at the Skippers Rigging Tent.
