2004 Fall Classic OD39 Regatta

October 10, 2004

What a beautiful day we had for the Regatta on Columbus Day weekend! Remember the rainy weekend just one year ago for the Victoria Nationals? Man did we luck out today. Temps in the 80's, not a cloud in the sky till the afternoon and the wind finally filled in after lunch for the afternoon's racing. The first half of the racing before lunch was very light winds with the question being asked "are we having fun yet?" quite a few times. But with 11 skippers showing up for this years regatta and one start for all, it was quite a sight for the starting line. With Cherl Oliveria running race committee for us this year, we all hoped that John Oliveira wasn't going to get any special treatment. With the usual heated discussion and questioned bumping that always comes with light to nothing winds, we were still able to get at least 4 races before lunch in a matter of an hour and half. Of course our customary WSC's lunch spread for all was brought to you by our cooks Tony Seta, Robert McGonigle, and Mama Seta, and of course all who contributed food for the regatta. Like we always say here at Woodlawn, "nobody goes home hungry!"  Woodlawn members are getting good at throwing these regattas. I threw this one together with the trophies and what little planning it took for the food in a matter of a week. And with our veteran members doing set-up and break down of the venue in about an hour, it really looks like we've done this before. Thanks for all the help today to all!!!!  Below are the Final Results, but make note of the Special Finisher award goes to the Silver Fleeter Ronny Jung racing in his very first R/C Regatta on a borrowed boat and finished every race and actually won a couple of Silver Fleet races. Way to hang in there Ronny!
